Equity actors for Ford's Theatre's LORT 2024-25 Season (See breakdown).

PREPARATION

FOR PLAYS: Please prepare a classic or modern monologue from the canon of American drama that’s no more than 90 seconds. FOR MUSICAL AUDITIONS: An accompanist will be provided. Please prepare either a contemporary piece of musical theatre, or alternatively, a piece of music rooted in soul music—a soulful ballad, or
rhythm & blues. Remember to bring sheet music. The music selection should not exceed 90 seconds. You may do both a monologue and a song. Please do not exceed 2 minutes. Please bring your headshot and resume stapled together.

EBENEZER SCROOGE: Age range 50s (or older). Transformed from jaded, pessimistic banker to joyful and appreciative philanthropist.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST/DOLL VENDOR: Age range 30s (or older). Illuminates the joys of Christmas to Scrooge.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT/FRUIT VENDOR: Age range 40s (or older). Towering physical presence. Joyful spirit.

GHOST OF CHRISTMAS FUTURE/CLOCK VENDOR: Age range 40s (or older). Sturdy physical frame. A scary presence communicates nonverbally.

MRS. DILBER/MRS/ FEZZIWIG: Age range 40s (or older). Scrooge’s opinionated cook/housekeeper. Mrs. Fezziwig is spirited and joyful, a real firecracker.

JACOB MARLEY: Age range 40s (or older). Deceased business partner of Scrooge. He comes back as a ghost to caution Scrooge against self-serving practices.

BOB CRATCHIT: Age range 30s-40s. Cheerful and devoted employee of Scrooge. Optimistic and caring father.

MRS. CRATCHIT: Age range 30s-40s. Loving wife of Bob Cratchit. Worried mother, harbors ill will toward Scrooge.

FRED/YOUNG SCROOGE: Age range late 20s. Scrooge’s young nephew. Genial and appreciative of the Christmas Spirit. Young Scrooge is an apprentice and the love interest of Belle.

MRS. FRED: Age range late 20s. Wife of Fred. Strong-willed, but with a generous spirit.

MRS. FRED’S SISTER: Age range 20s. Sassy and opinionated.

TOPPER/YOUNG JACOB MARLEY: Age range 20s. Bumbling with words, pleasant attitude, boyish
charm.

SOLICITOR #1: Age range 30s (or older). Jovial lawyer with a hearty laugh and quick smile.

SOLICITOR #2/UNDERTAKER: Age range 30s (or older). Generous lawyer, but a bit of a hothead.

FEZZIWIG: Age range 40s (or older). Jovial merchant. Energetic personality.

BELLE: Age range 20s. Love interest of young Scrooge. Loving, thoughtful with a heart of gold.

DELORIS VAN CARTIER (female): Age range 25-35. Vocal range top: F#5. Vocal range bottom: E3. An aspiring performer who seeks both fame and her place in the world is forced to hide in a convent. Loud-mouthed but ultimately caring.

MOTHER SUPERIOR (female): Age range 50-70. Vocal range top: E5. Vocal range bottom: F#3. Head of the convent. Sarcastic and often stiff. Wants to keep the sisters protected from outside influences.

SISTER MARY ROBERT (female): Age range 16-25. Vocal range top: A5. Vocal range bottom: F#3. A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken. Singing with Deloris allows her to find her voice.

SISTER MARY PATRICK (female): Age range 35-50. Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano. Consistently enthusiastic and easily excitable.

SISTER MARY LAZARUS (female): Age range 50-70. Vocal range top: B4. Vocal range bottom: F3. Head of the choir. Deadpan and least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’ soulful music.

MONSIGNOR O’HARA (male): Age range 45-60. Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: E3.
Convent comes under his purview. Concerned with the convent financials. Soul music puts him in a
hopeful mood.

CURTIS (male): Age range 30-40. Vocal range top: Ab4. Vocal range bottom: A2. Club owner,
notorious gangster, and Deloris boyfriend. Controlling. Always on the verge of violence.

EDDIE SOUTHER (male): Age range 25-35. Vocal range top: B4. Vocal range bottom: Ab2. Desk chief at the Philadelphia police station. A high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Nervous/sweaty. Yearns for Deloris and dreams of being her hero.

TJ (male): Age range 16-30. Vocal range top: Eb5. Vocal range bottom: Db3. Curtis’ nephew and one of his thugs. Lives in a stage of ignorant bliss.

JOEY (male): Age range 30-40. Vocal range top: Eb5. Vocal range bottom: Bb2. One of Curtis’ thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man.

PABLO (male): Age range 25-40. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: C4. One of Curtis’ thugs. Spanish speaker.

SISTER MARY MARTIN-OF-TOURS (female): Age range 40-60. A nun of the convent. Lives in her
own world but has moments of surprising clarity.

SISTER MARY THERESA (female): Age range 60-70. The oldest nun in the convent, but secretly packs a punch.

MICHELLE (female): Age range 20-30. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: Bb3. One of Deloris’ backup singers always quick with a retort.

TINA (female): Age range 20-30. Vocal range top: F5. Vocal range bottom: Ab3. One of Deloris’ backup singers. A little naive.

ERNIE (male): Age range 25-35. One of Curtis’ thugs turns out to be undercover police.
